Working in Ohio

One of four states comprised of at least 50% prime farmland, Ohio proudly boasts excellent climate and soil diversity for crop growth. Corn and soybeans dominate as the leading crops in The Buckeye State. Soy beans, representing the top agricultural export, generate profits of nearly $2.87 billion, with $1.73 billion alone from trading. Dairy products embody chief commodities by yielding approximately 13.8% of total cash receipts. Of the close to 40,900 square miles of land, more than 200 crops, livestock, and poultry products ranging from hogs and eggs to wheat and apples contribute to the economic growth of the state. Unique avenues, such as beekeeping, mushroom growing, maple syrup farming, and Swiss cheese production, demonstrate diversity in agriculture. Chicken and turkey farmsteads bring an estimated 14,600 jobs yearly. Readily obtainable employment in wholesaling, production, marketing, processing, and agribusiness supplies one-in-seven Ohioans with jobs.

Rolling plains scatter throughout the state, commonly known as the Great Lakes Plains and the Till Plains regions. Fertile lowlands tumble west in the Maumee Valley and extend from the Lake Erie border. In western portions of the state, a gentle landscape of hills fashion farmland reining supreme in much of the United States. Warm, humid summers proceed to cold winters, with average monthly temperatures around 85.8 degrees Fahrenheit to 15.5 degrees. Annual precipitation typically amounts to 36 inches of rainfall. Named after Native Americans, the Miamian Soil Series comprises of very deep, well-draining soils with dense till. Approximately 4 to 12 inches of top soil construct the terrain of almost all of the 13.9 million acres of farmland. Blanketed in hardwood forests, southern and eastern Ohio utilize oak and walnut, infamously known for tight patterns and shapes. Harvested annually for veneers, furniture, and paper industries, roughly 300 to 400 million board feet originate from wood found in the state each year.

Ezoic
Spanning 2,500 acres of pristine farmland, Heimerl Farm Ltd hires over 50 employees to care for roughly 350,000 hogs sold each year. Rewarding yet challenging job titles await candidates able to pass mandatory background checks, such as farmhands, swine transporters, facility members, and production managers. Located in South Solon, Pitstick Farms produces quality corn, soybeans, and wheat. Farming aspirants over 18 years of age may apply through online application forms. Generous pay rates of $8.00 to $10.00 accompany openings for pickers, migrant workers, and farm laborers. Job seekers compete to join the teams at Deerfield Farms, originally a 93-acre corn and hog operation which experienced substantial growth over the years. The multi-facility company entices prospective workers with healthcare insurance, 401(k) retirement plans, and paid time off.

Contributing nearly $93 billion to the economy of Ohio, the agricultural industry also decreases the unemployment rate within the state. With more than 800 food processing plants, opportunities to work inside facilities or out in the field stand available for entry-level contenders. Corporate-owned branches seek dozens of skilled laborers to partake in daily operations and seasonal work. Typically one to two years of experience grant eligibility for salary packages above minimum wage. Local, family-run establishments encourage talented farmhands to apply in person with resumes, while larger facilities maintain online employment presences. Ohio State University offers an intense curriculum for individuals interested in the agricultural industry. Advanced-level occupations as managers, production leaders, and marketing gurus receive higher salary options above $45,000 a year. Persistence and determination permit workers of all experience levels to enjoy rewarding careers.
