Working in Florida
With almost 50,000 farms, Florida provides a variety of farming jobs and other employment opportunities in the agricultural industry. Farms use over 10 million acres of land across The Sunshine State. As many job seekers may already know, oranges and citrus fruits constitute a large portion of farming in Florida. In fact, the state persists as the number one producer of oranges among the other 49 states. Citrus production accounts for almost $2 billion in annual income, while the other number one commodity grouping of nursery, greenhouse, floriculture and sod brings in almost as much money. Other important agricultural commodities in Florida include tomatoes, dairy products, sugarcane, and cattle. Additional products consist of grains, beans, poultry, aquaculture, cotton, sheep, goats, swine, and tobacco.
As the second largest industry in the state, the Florida agricultural industry hires dependable farm workers year round. Produce farms may prove the most lucrative market for farmhands, migrant workers, and fruit pickers of varying experience. Hydro Harvest Farm, Sunny Ridge Farm, and Segrest Farms may provide great opportunity along with the possibility for advancement as some of the largest state employers. Plenty of farms also exist in other markets and provide both entry-level and professional employment opportunities for agricultural workers.
