Working in Delaware

Delaware farms contribute over $1 billion to the state annual income and occupy almost 40% of land within The First State. Of the 2,500 farms and 500,000 acres dedicated to farming, around 90% of farms remain family-owned. Poultry generates more money than any other agricultural commodity produced by the state. Corn covers two-fifths of useable farmland, while nursery stock, soybeans, and dairy products constitute a remaining majority of production. Additional crops include wheat, hay, barley, cabbage, cantaloupes, cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes, and watermelon. Food processing also comprises a large portion of industry in Delaware. The state also produces livestock, such as cattle and swine. With such a wide array of production, farm workers and other agricultural employees may choose from a plethora of farms to work for.

Farmhands, migrant workers, and pickers enjoy access to lucrative work options. Job seekers interested in poultry and livestock may try TA Farms, Mountaire Farms, and Southern States Farm. Workers with experience in produce farming may take interest in T.S. Smith & Sons, Bobola Farms, and the Sam Yoder Farm. More popular farms may allow workers to apply online for employment consideration; however, many farms use entirely different application processes to hire prospective employees. Perform research on nearby farms to improve chances of attaining a Delaware farming job. Pay rates and benefits vary among employers; however, workers may expect responsibility-commensurate salary options and benefits dependent on experience and abilities.
