Working in Central California
Farms and other agricultural businesses in Central California thrive due to the more than 200 crops commonly grown in the area. The Central Valley produces about one-third of crops consumed in the United States. Stretching as far as 450 miles long and about 50 miles wide, the valley consists of around 40,000 square miles and encompasses more than two-fifths of the Golden State. Focusing mainly on growing fruits and vegetables, the agricultural industry in the central region of California remains famous for yielding apples, almonds, berries, green beans, cotton, oranges, and tomatoes. While most counties boast multiple key crops, lumber remains predominant in the north, while rice becomes more popular descending through the area, and fruits, nuts, grapes, and cotton trend towards the south.
As one of the most productive regions in the world, Central Californian agrarian businesses must regularly hire new employees to fill entry-level jobs, part-time vacancies, and professional positions. Depending on the particular county, as much as 43% of the population holds farming jobs. The fair temperature region allows year-round production of crops, resulting in the need for migrant workers, farmhands, and fruit and vegetable pickers to maintain crops throughout the calendar year.
