WHM Visas
The Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa grants foreigners 12 months to travel to Australia from the date of issue. Workers may stay in Australia for 12 months from the date of entry into the country. A visa holder may work full-time, part-time, or casually for three months at a time with any one employer. An applicant should keep a record of employment on Form 1263, a document entitling a worker to apply for a second working holiday visa.
Australia maintains reciprocal working holiday maker arrangements with the following countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Republic of Ireland, the Republic of Korea, Malta, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Hong Kong (HKSAR), Finland, Cyprus, Italy, France, Belgium, Estonia, and Taiwan.
People who hold valid passports from most of the countries honoring Australian holiday maker arrangements may apply for a Working Holiday visa in any country, except Australia. Applicants who hold a valid passport from Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malta, Germany, Taiwan, the HKSAR (or a British National Overseas passport), or the Republic of Cyprus must apply in the country which issued the passport.
Working Holiday visa applicants must fall between the ages of 18 and 30 and provide proof of status as single or married without children.
Visa hopefuls must show:
- the main reason for coming to Australia is for a holiday and any work done is for financial support while on holiday;
- they have a good chance of finding temporary work to supplement holiday funds; they have a return ticket or sufficient funds for a return fare and the first part of their stay; and they intend to leave Australia at the end of their authorized stay.
- For accurate, up-to-date information, see the informative webpage operated by the Working Holiday Program: Australian Dept. of Immigration & Citizenship
Working in Australia
Australia operates as a major agricultural producer and exporter, with farming comprising approximately 12% of the country GDP. Domestic agricultural efforts produce roughly 90% of the food for the commonwealth country in addition to chief lines of export for several Islander and Asian countries. Farms in Australia produce a wide variety of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Major fruit crops in Australia include oranges, apples, bananas, tomatoes, mangoes, and pineapples. Vegetable crops in Australia primarily consist of potatoes and carrots. A large cereal producer, Australia also harvests grains like wheat, barley, and oats as primary commodities and oilseeds. Sugar, rice, and cotton comprise large portions of agriculture in Australia, as well.
The Australian agricultural industry also specializes in livestock products. Beef remains one of the largest livestock enterprises, while farms also raise sheep, lambs, pigs, and poultry. According to Dairy Australia, an aggregate website dedicated to statistics regarding the dairy trade in the Commonwealth of Australia, reports estimate annual revenues reaching in excess of $13 billion in the manufacturing of milk powders, cheese, and butters alone. Dairy farming accounts for nearly 45,000 jobs in the commonwealth nation, with production growth and expansion of exports into new territories requiring more and more new farm workers on a regular basis. With an expansive agricultural industry, Australia needs to hire motivated workers to fill numerous farming jobs across the country.
Farms across Australia offer year-round, seasonal, and part-time work. Popular farming jobs include work as farmhands, migrant workers, fruit pickers, and vegetable pickers. The Australian farming industry offers employment in processing, packaging, and transportation of goods as well as traditional farm jobs. Both entry-level and professional picking jobs need staffed with dedicated agricultural workers. Australian farm workers may receive quality salary options and generous job benefits as part of the farming industry. Anyone interested in Australia farming jobs should apply online today to begin a career in a large and prosperous industry.
