Allanhill Farm is situated on the East Coast of Scotland, 1.5km from the historical university town of St Andrews and the world famous golf course and beaches. We grow 110 acres of strawberries, which are packed on the farm for sale to large supermarket chains in the UK. We expect to have around 350 employees working with us this season for periods of 6 weeks to 16 weeks. WHAT THE WORK INVOLVES: Picking strawberries is the main job on Allanhill, employees are also required to check fruit for quality and some for packhouse duties. Other work includes constructing polythene tunnels and cutting strawberry runners. Pickers are paid on a piece work basis (for the quantity of fruit picked per day), for up to 6 days per week. Polytunnels cover the whole 110 acres therefore picking is possible during wet weather! ACCOMMODATION: Accommodation is in fully equipped self-catering mobile homes on the farm. RECREATION AND LEISURE: Allanhill is situated in a beautiful rural area overlooking the sea and St Andrews. There are superb beaches, a leisure centre, lovely walks, historic monuments and plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in the town. Trips to various tourist attractions are arranged. Past excursions have included trips to Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Highlands of Scotland, Edinburgh and Glasgow. On the farm itself, students can watch sky television, play darts, pool, table tennis, table football and wireless access to the internet. There are also barbecue facilities. Parties on a regular basis are organised where the aim is to bring everyone together to promote friendship and understanding between different cultures and nationalities.
